Yes, the Spotify Reviewer Job is Real, but not how you think!

If you’ve heard about “spotify reviewer jobs and wondered if they are legit, the answer is yes. However, it is a little big more difficult than all that, and you won’t be working for Spotify.

People are paid to review music, but the reviewers are paid by outside third-party companies, not Spotify themselves. There are also some fairly specific requirements, because they are actually hiring playlist curators, not song reviewers.

What the heck is a playlist curator?

A playlist curator is somebody who, well… curates a playlist! If you’ve seen the playlists on Spotify that are not official ones – those people are curators. They take their own personal taste and develop it into the best spotify playlist they can. This often earns them followers, and sometimes, it’s a lot of followers, thousands of them!

For music artists who are looking to gain exposure for their music, this is a gold mine. So, both independents and major labels spend a lot of time and money pitching for placements on these playlists.

So who is actually paying the curators?

As previously stated, the companies that pay reviewers are third parties. They act as a middle man between these artists/labels and the playlist curators. It works like this.

An artist or label launches a campaign

Labels and artists need to pitch a lot of curators. This is obviously very time consuming and using one of these third-party services that already has relationships with curators is easier, so they are willing to pay for this convenience.

The playlist site accepts payment and sends songs to curators

The playlist site already has a large database of playlist curators who are waiting for songs. They take the track and send it to curators that match that song’s genre and vibe.

The curator listens to songs and adds them to playlists

Curators then listen to these songs and decide if they want to add them to their playlists or not. They are paid a fee for their time whether they add the song or not.

How much money can you make as a Spotify playlist curator?

It’s hard to say. It really depends on the platform you join, the genres of your playlist, and how many artists are submitting a campaign in those genres. But, don’t expect to quit your day job. There is hardly enough work to go around for that.

But, it could be a good bit of side income if you already love curating playlists!

Some sites, like SubmitHub could pay you just 50 cents to screen a track, while Playlist Push promises up to $15 in payment for participating.
