Quilt Sizes and Yardage
This question is a bit tougher to answer. There are honestly a lot of variables that come into play when quilting! This includes what type of design you’re making, how big your quilt blocks are, the size of your borders, etc.
Standard Queen Quilt Yardage
However, a standard queen size quilt will require approximately 8 yards of fabric for the front of the quilt and another 8 yards of fabric for the quilt backing. But, the exact amount can vary depending on the design.
The exact yardage needed to make a queen size quilt varies. If you use fat quarter pieces of 18 inch by 22 inch fabric, you will need at least 16 fat quarters for the center of the quilt, and an additional 3 1/2 yards for the border. If you are making a traditional three fabric quilt, you will need 2 1/2 yards each of a light, medium and dark fabric for the front of the quilt. For most quilt patterns, you also need an additional yard of fabric for the binding.
