How to use these embroidery designs
Ready to start using some new designs for your embroidery machine projects but not sure where to start? That’s okay! Downloading new designs off the internet doesn’t have to be difficult. Here’s what you need to do.
Find a design you want to use
Step one is to find a design for your projects! You can click on a design above to go to the download page, or you can click here to see our full free download machine embroidery library! Every design in our library comes in PES, JEF, and DST embroidery formats, which should work for most consumer machines.
PS. Need a format that’s not listed here? Find free embroidery software in this article that can help you convert your embroidery files to the right format.
Download your chosen design
Downloading designs on Romney Ridge Farms & Crafts is easy! Just click the big “download now” button on the design page and your craft files will start downloading. All file formats and sizes will be delivered in a single download file.
Each design listing includes information about the included embroidery files. You’ll be able to see which sizes and file formats are included before you download the design.
Unzip your embroidery downloads
All of our designs are delivered in a singular ZIP file. These are compressed folders which make it convenient and easy to share multiple files at once, but before you can use the file inside – you must UNZIP them!
Your computer already has the necessary software to do this. Simple right click on the ZIP file and scroll down to “Extract All” in the menu. By default, the files will be extracted to the same location as the Zipped folder. Click “Extract” and you’ll be presented with a new folder. Your files are now ready to use!
Find the correct machine file
Embroidery machines use different file formats! You’ll need to make sure that you’re using the correct format or designs may not show on your machine! If you’ve got a Brother or BabyLock machine, you’ll want to use the PES file, but if you have a Janome machine you’ll need to use JEF!
Transfer the designs to your USB stick
Most machines (unless you have a really fancy one!) will require a USB thumb drive to transfer designs from your computer to your embroidery machine. (If this is your first time using the USB stick, check your manual to see if the USB stick needs to be formatted before you use it!)
Plug your USB stick into the computer and a little message should pop up asking what you want to do with it. Choose to open the drive and you’ll be presented with a folder. All you need to do now is drag and drop the correct file into this new folder! Once the file has been copied – you’re good to go!
Move the USB stick to your machine
All that’s left to do now is transfer the designs to your machine. However, the process for this may vary a bit depending on what brand of machine you have! For example, the instructions for transferring designs to a Brother embroidery machine can be found here!
