Need some help using these designs?
Are you new to download machine embroidery designs from the internet? That’s okay! Everyone was new once upon a time. Follow these steps to learn how to get your new freebies ready for your embroidery machine.
Find a design you like
Step one is to browse our free machine embroidery library and find a design that you like! We have over 100+ free embroidery designs to download! All of our free machine embroidery patterns come in PES, JEF, and DST formats.
These formats should work for the majority of embroidery machine models on the market, but if you need a different embroidery machine file format, I’ve also created a blog post with free embroidery programs that can help with converting your files! You can also resize these embroidery designs as well.
Each page in our embroidery library includes a short description and will tell you the sizes that come with the download.
Download the embroidery file
Download your designs is easy! There’s no need to register an account. Just click the big green button that says “download now”. Your computer will begin downloading a zip file which contains all the file formats and sizes for that design.
Unzip the embroidery designs folder
ZIP files make it easy to transfer lots of files at once, but that also means you need to UNZIP them before you can use them. This is a very easy process and your computer already has the software you need to do the job.
Just right click on the file you download and scroll down to “extract all”. When you click on this it will ask where you want to extract the files to. Just click “extract” and the files will go to the same location as the ZIP file you are extracting.
After extracting, a new folder will show. This folder contains the extracted embroidery designs!
Find the right file type for your machine
Next, you’ll need to find the right file type for your machine. If you have a Janome machine, you’ll want to use the JEF file. If you’ve got a Brother or BabyLock machine, you’ll want to use the PES file. DST is most commonly used for commercial machines, but there are some home embroidery machines that can also use this file type.
Transfer the design to your USB stick
Once you’ve found the right design, you need to transfer it to your USB stick! Insert your USB into your computer and a little message will pop up asking you what you want to do with the drive. Choose to open it and a folder will appear.
Now, just drag and drop (or copy and paste) your chosen embroidery file into this new folder. Your machine will automatically start copying the embroidery file to the USB stick.
Once its finished, you can remove your USB stick from the computer.
Move the files to the embroidery machine
Next you’ll need to take the embroider files from the USB stick to the embroidery machine. The steps here will vary depending on your machine make and model and you may need to consult your manual for help.
You can find the instructions for transferring embroidery designs to Brother machines here, but some machines may do it slightly differently!
